Botswana or Sun City

Hi--I'm planning a trip to SA in April. We're staying at Singita for 3 nights, but trying to decide whether we should also spend three nights at Xakanaka Camp in Botswana instead of our planned stay at the Palace in Sun City. We are also going to Capetown, the Winelands, and Victoria Falls. Does it make sense to skip Botswana and go to Sun City instead to keep the costs down or would we really be missing out?

Hello,

Botswana or Sun City? There's no comparison! Sun City is essentially a cross between Las Vegas and Disney World -- a giant casino sited in an African fantasy theme park. After Singita, it will be a real let down unless you're a fan of Vegas and Disney World and/or are going for the kitsch value.

Botswana is definitely not a budget option, but if you're going to Vic Falls you're not far away. You could certainly do a visit to the Delta from Vic Falls. The Delta is very unlike the Sabi Sands area, and would provide an entirely different experience.

Another option is Zambia, which is equally close, or Zimbabwe, both of which are lower priced than Botswana if you want to keep the costs down.

Forget Sun City -- go to Botswana or Zambia!

Cheers,
Julian

Regardless where - if you've seen one casino, you've seen them all. Even Wynn in LAS is "just another casino." No matter how many fancy named restaurants or the entertainment - a casino.

So there is no choice in my mind. Definitely, Botswana!

apriltrip, we did this trip about 3 years ago. Royal Livingstone (which I think you mentioned elsewhere) in Zambia, then Botswana, then Singita and ended up with 5 days in Capetown. You want Botswana. And read The Number One Ladies' Detective Agency before you go as it's set in Botswana.

Thanks! I guess I already knew the answer, but needed reassurance to justify spending the extra cash! I just wasn't sure if my time in Botswana would be too similar to my time at Singita.
