Lemuria

Anyone been here lately? I have read that some people love it and others are not so impressed? We are booked to stay here the first week of September 06 for a honeymoon. Is this a wise decision?

For a week, it's a good idea to break up your time with about 4-5 days on Praslin Island. From here you can easily do day trips to nearby islands; especially nice is the day trip to La Digue. La Digue to way to far from Mahe to do as a day trip. Spend the remainder of your time on Mahe.

Your travel agent should be able to combine Lemuria and Banyan; both expensive, unless you choose some of the older established hotels. L'Archipel on Praslin and the Northholme (recently refurbished) with lots of history. Nearby is Sunset Beach. There are many other choices on both islands.

The flight between Pralin and Mahe is 15-minutes. I'd check out all properties that work with your budget.

We did prepaid breakfast (the B&B [Bed/breakfast] plan). There are other restaurants and hotels on these islands, but you should have some idea of what/where they are, as you'll have to taxi to/fr... very few are within walking distance.

Note - many of the hotels try to book Full Board (FB = 3 meals daily) and this works for some. Others prefer Half-board (HB = bkfst/dinner). Otherwise, if you go a-la-carte for other meals, lunch & dinner, the prices tend to be high. This is an island chain and just about everything is shipped in.

Because it is so hot on the islands, many don't have an appetite to eat 3-meals daily... we didn't, so breakfast was fine for us. One evening we were invited by a couple we met on one of our day cruises, to their hotel "down the road a bit" - a BBQ buffet on the beach. Other nights, if we wished, we paid a-la-carte for dinner... most nights we even passed on dinner, but not past the bar.

If you book full-day tours, lunch is included, so consider HB rather than FB. In the end, it's your choice, depending on what works for you.
