Layover in London
Hello Everyone,
I will have a layover at Heathrow en route to Entebbe, Uganda. We arrive at 8am and the plane does not leave until 11pm. We were hoping to go into London for the day but I was wondering about the logistics. I know it can be done but being the worrier that I am I need to have details i.e. how long into the city and back, tube versus express bus versus taxi, etc. I was also wondering if London is alive as a city on Sundays. Thanks, Juliet |
Also an express train....the paddington express.
But at 8am, you may as well take the tube, if you dont have any bags with you?...the city will probably wake up late on sunday.... |
I've done this twice. The normal tube will get you to Picadilly Station in a bit over an hour. The Paddington Express takes around 15 minutes. I enjoyed the scenery on the tube and it's about 3-4 times cheaper than the express and taxis are even more. If you really worry, take the tube in and the express back to the airport

I live in London and although we wake up a little later on Sunday there's lots to do. Check out Camden market for shopping and lots of food stalls of every possible nationality, or hows about go to the London Eye, take a ride on that and then a speedboat down the Thames that will give you a chance to see all the sights and have some fun too!
|
You could even take a walk with London Walks and get excellent insight into a piece of the city. We are doing the samething but in Paris. Arriving in the morning and then going into the city since our flight to Jo'burg leaves at midnight.

Juliet,
I'm another one who's done this. It was easy. Our layover was so long that we didn't bother with the Express. Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get back to the airport. Uganda! How exciting. |
Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll do the tube then and stop off somewhere to see some friends and shower.

Hello,
You can shower at Heathrow if you'd like to -- there are showers available in most if not all terminals. Cheers, Julia |
Julian,
Showers at Heathrow? I was only able to find lounges that had no mentinon of showers. Unless of course they were for first class or business class. Please advise. This will be greatly appreciated. Juliet |

Hi Juliet,
Here's a link to a Heathrow site where I've done a search for showers: http://tinyurl.com/2njjgy It looks like Terminal 2 may be shower-free but the others all have showers. Cheers, Julian |
Thank you Julian and Kevin. It seems to be a little known thing. I swear I googled with every possible word I could think of to find showers at Heathrow.
