Liz: your trip will be splendid and worth every minute of understandable anxiety you have gone through. The Mara will not forget your faith in her and she will unveil all her glory and splendor for you. My fingers, toes, feet (and legs!) are still crossed for you. And thanks for appeasing me with the cheetah .....much better than being named after a wildebeest!!

Offy-
I missed your sad post and just now saw it. Only two more days, right? And you will be back before I go? I keep forgetting how long you will be gone, but not over 2 weeks. Thats about right. I shall be on bended knee praying for you and the Wildies. Please thank them for me for being there. Tell them I will have a surprise for them or something to keep them there and looking forward to my visit.
Enjoy yourself, eat, drink, watch and dream of just being there. Pause and smell the air. Air will never smell as good to you again. Soak in the colors of Africa. You will always carry them in your minds eye. Your heart will remember. Be safe, Godspeed! A friend.

Okay now, this is the absolute latest I just found. I check these sites every day now and this just came up today.

Yes, Susan, they are THERE!!!! So since Andy is there right now, he must be seeing them. Then OfftoAfrica comes in next week, I believe, so he too will get to see them.
Susan-Isn't that crossing just thrilling? 50,000 overall, and it took an hour. Wow! I'm just speechless. Wild horses couldn't keep me away now. Here's a big woooooo hoooooooo. Liz

See, Liz, I told you the Mara would not let you down. It will be a trip beyond compare for you! And as far as Kavey's succinct comment that she is jealous, I will be perfectly frank and tell you I am beyond jealous!!! I really am thrilled for you and I cannot imagine 50,000 wildebeests! The crossing we saw was much smaller in comparison, but I was thrilled none the less. So, when you get there, find out from your guide where the animals are congregating and plant yourself there. We had to wait about three hours, but it was worth every minute. Be patient with the wildebeests and zebras, and they will not disappoint you. Just make sure you take a picnic lunch with you every day you head to the river, as it would be horrible to stay there for hours, return to camp for lunch and find out you missed a crossing! Oh dear .. I am getting tears in my eyes at the prospect of what you may see. Ah, Africa ... the Magnificent Mara ... soulful Kenya ... Yes, Liz, I am beyond jealous!

Thanks Kavey and Susan-
I am beyond excited right now. I am so praying for Andy and Offy. How lucky they were to be there right now. The picture of the Wildies changes daily on that website and from yesterday to today they moved right into the Mara. Governors Camp of course is in the same area as Kitchwa Tembo. Since they are 2M strong, I imagine it will take them (the Wildies) weeks to complete the crossings. I am so thankful we did get the private car and yes, every day we will head out early with our food for the action. It has been such an ordeal, will they?, won't they?. Don't want to try this again, except of course in February at Ndutu. Thanks for your support and you've proved what good loyal friends you both are. Liz

Liz, as your trip fast approaches, I am sure you are busy getting ready for your wonderful journey. In case you didn't put this on your list of things to do while in the Mara, I am reminding you to find a cheetah (of course the most beautiful and graceful in all of the Mara!) to name after me and the most gorgeous giraffe to name after Kavey. You know how tempermental "divas" can be when they are not remembered!

Also, if you can, have your guide drive you to a giant herd of wildebeest and then cut the engine. Just sit there amidst them, listening to their grunts and munching on the dry grass. We did this and it was heaven - absolute heaven. They will stare at you just like the buffalo do, but without the attitude! Call me nuts, but I am enamored of these animals! People say they are stupid, but I give them credit for giving humans one of the greatest shows on earth.

Again, I am thrilled that after all your ups and downs as far as planning this trip that you have stuck it out. You will not be disappointed and I am genuinely happy for you!

Susan-
You must have read my mind. I have a small (minature) tape recorder. Its in the pile to go with, and 3 new tiny casettes. Just for the Wildies. I'm going to get the sounds if I see a crossing, and also just their sounds down for later remembering.
Oh and about that Cheetah. I have a plan. You just wait! That goes for sweet Kavey too. You'll see. Liz

Sit tight, Liz!!! You will be amidst the wildies very soon. Know that many of us will be thinking of you and keeping our fingers crossed that you see a crossing. After reading Offy's posting, I had to grab our photo albums and watch the video of what we witnessed. And you know what? I still get tears in my eyes!!! You will have a magnificent and awesome trip, and I am so thrilled for you. Just remember, a giraffe for Kavey and a cheetah for me!! You go, girlfriend!!

Susan-
Why not post your photos of the crossing on the internet so we can view them? One other thought, if we are lucky and get to see a crossing, would it be just as good if I named a croc after you or Kavey? I don't mean just any common croc, what about the one that gets a Wildie or a particularly large one? A water creature might be nice. Huh?
This is just weighing heavy on my mind, I try to please everyone you know. Here I try to please Jan by saying I won't eat wild meat and what does she do? Suggests a whole new place to eat. Like wasn't just honoring her meat desire enough? No, now I have to go to HER restaurant too. Demanding divas, I swear! You'd think I was desperate for friends or something for what I put up with.
We leave in 3 more days, so woo hoo! We're packing today, repacking tomorrow, and who knows what after that?
Take care y'all, we'll be thinking of you. Liz

Yes, we are demanding divas and darn proud of it!!! As far as my crossing photos, I am a bit slow on the technology front and still prefer old-fashioned prints. I have some photos on disk, so maybe I will go ahead and try to figure it all out. Laziness takes precedence, I'm afraid. Oh, and as far as naming a croc after me, thanks, but no thanks. I like to think I am as fast and svelte as a cheetah ... "think" is the operative word here. Have a wonderful trip Liz. I am incredibly happy and excited for your adventure, as well as completely and utterly jealous! Bon Voyage!!!

Susan-
Okay, I thought it was Sunday instead of Saturday. I was almost there, but another day longer to wait than I thought.
Thanks for your support throughout this, and it will be over so quickly that the buildup is surely 3/4ths of the trip. You'll just turn around and I'll be back, so I better start off by being nicer and quit complaining about my demanding friends. I will find the fastest and most sleekest animal I can in 6 days and brand him/her Susan. I guess its a slow day and seems like I've already gone through two days today. Let me fade off into the sunset here and quit boring you all with goodbyes. Liz

Governors Camp has now posted the report from August. Go to: http://www.governorscamp.com/diary/a...august2003.htm
to view it. Very nice long report and includes things happening tomorrow and the next day. Go figure. Makes me wonder if we forgot to go.

Liz-Loved the Governors camp report and am excited that you are leaving so soon to experience all that wonder. Can't wait to read your trip report. I guess this is the fate to which I am now doomed...living vicariously through game reports and other peoples' trip reports until I can go back again.

Did you catch the part where it was dated 3 Sept 2003, toward the end? I said to my husband, are they predicting the future or did we forget to leave? Took me back for a minute. Still the strangest thing!
