Kruger Airport to Arathusa---fly, drive, or both?

We need to get from Kruger Airport to Arathusa (north Sabi Sand). The price of ground transportation and flying are similar. We will probably fly to the lodge because of our arrival time. We have plenty of time on our return. Would the road transfer be interesting in itself (3 hours)? Or do we "just" fly back too (30 minutes)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there

If you have not booked flights to Kruger it really dos make more sense to fly to Hoedspruit and then it is a quick transfer across from Hoedspruit about 25 minutes.

The road transfer is okay, if you have time and can stop at some of the road side stalls it makes it more interesting.

Thanks, Doogle,

We are arriving from Cape Town, which means a connection in JNB to get to Hoedspruit. We are leaning towards the direct flight.

Just curious, what and where is the Kruger airport? Is it Skukuza or Nelspruit or Hoedspruit or Phalaborwa or?

Nelspruit.

Thanks for any input!

By the way, we will also be spending 5 nights at Phinda (2-walking safari and 3-mountain lodge).

Tom,

I have never been there but have done some in depth research for my forthcoming self drive trip.

Kruger Airport also known as KMIA (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) is just outside of Nelspruit. You can get direct flihts from Kruger airport to bot Johannesbrg and Cape Town. Do look at the informative airport web site here http://www.kmiairport.co.za/Default.aspx

Hoedspruit and Phalborwa both have separate airports with flights to Johannesburg.

Thanks Mohammed, I didn't know MIA had been renamed KMIA. Although KMIA is used for Miami (USA) International Airport. Anyway, Skukuza used to be the Kruger airport but I guess that was changed about two years ago.

It is called KMIA by most folks however the official airline code is MQP -(don't ask me why).

I have booked my flights to and from there on SA Airlink online.
