Kommetjie and Sunset Beach

Am in the final stages of planning an April 2006 South Africa/Zambia trip and have been looking at guest houses in the cape town area to stay at. It seems like most of the people posting on this forum have stayed in Cape Town proper or the Southern suburbs (eg. Camps Bay). Looking through the various B&Bs in the region it appears that there are some very reasonably priced ones in the Kommetjie/Sunset beach area. Has anyone used this area as their home base when visiting Cape Town? How windy will it be in April relative to Camps Bay? Is this drive significantly longer into downtown CapeTown compared to traveling from Camps Bay? Anything else I should know about this neck of the woods?

Thanks for all your input, Glenn

That is the forgotten frontier of Cape Town: It is gorgeous and certainly puts you in a place where the beaches are far closer than from the city bowl enirons. Scarbourgh beach, the peninsula, the false bay beaches etc are within ten to twenty minutes drive. Yes the haul to the city is longer 45 minutes or so, but then you can either go over the silvermine, or through hout bay and over suikerbossie, both are beautiful drives.

And if you enjoy surfing, long beach and noordhoek corner are on your doorstep. The winds....depends, when the south easter is humping over the peninsula there are not many places that escape its force, however in April the winds tend to pass further south and you are likely to experience idyllic weather patterns with the oputside chance of a quick frontal storm.
