Kirkman's Kamp

Hello,

Has anyone been there recently? If so, how was the game viewing? I am really interested in seeing the big 5 and I am scheduled to be there next month

Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,

I was at Kirkman's in February, during the rainy season. Despite it being the "off" season, we had no problems seeing the Big 5, even though we weren't able to cross the river most days. We even had a "Big 5 Drive". You'll be in one of the best game viewing areas in the world - Sabi Sand. No worries!

Thanks for the reply. I went with Kirkmans since Mala Mala was booked. I read that at Kirkman's you can still go onto the southern portion of Mala Mala territory. Is this still true?

Yes, true. Charleston area of MM, i think......very small portion of MM.

Danny

You will be able to traverse the bottom two fifths of the old MM. MM have traversing rights over Toulon (most southerly) and Kirkmas have rights over Charleston. There is a good rapport between the rangers at both properties and they share radio communications to improve everyone's chances. I would not worry about seeing the big 5.

If you go to http://www.malamala.tv/map.htm

Then hover over the icons you can read various sightings for the last week. There are lots of Lion and Leopard in the southern area.

I was at Londolozi last December, also in the Sabi Sand area. Saw the big 5 my first game drive out. It was amazing. Have fun!
