Kings Way (Golden Tulip) Petra hotel = roughing it?

During my upcoming trip to Jordan I plan to spend two nights - at least one full day - at Petra. Unfortunately, the tour company I'm working with could not get a reservation for my hotel/class of choice. My options are Kings Way (aka Golden Tulip) in Wadi Musa and a Movenpick suite. I think Kings Way was, but is no longer, part of the Golden Tulip chain as it is no longer listed on their website. By all accounts the Movenpick is a great choice, however, the suite option will cost us $278 more than Kings Way. I've read the TA reviews, but have any readers here been to Kings Way recently who have opinions to share? Is it really shabby? Or is a suite just so much better? (and more expensive) We are generally not luxury travelers, but not hostellers either.

It might be nice to spend a night in luxury before going camping in Wadi Rum. On the other hand, it might make the desert conditions seem harsher in comparison!
