Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

I am going to hike Kilimanjaro with Tusker Trails at the end of December on the Western Breach route. The trip is a bit pricey, but I think Tusker is a good company and I've tried a cheaper company for my first time hiking there. I tried the Machame route 7 months ago. Is there anyone interested? The trip starts on December 29th. I'm leaving New York on Dec 26th. It's a 10 day hike including 2 acclimatization days. The last hike, I went solo, but would like others to join me if any are interested. Also, I am planning a horse riding safari for 5 days after the hike before leaving Tanzania on Jan 12th.

If you can't join me, but have any questions about Kili, etc, don't hesitate to email me. I'll try to help if I can.

.... I'm 30 years old (female) finishing my 2nd Bachelor's Degree (Nursing). I'm not very athletic, but like to try things...

Who are you going riding with? We have a horseback safari planned with Makoa Farm in early Dec.

I'm using Makoa Farm as well but will be going Jan 8- Jan 12... If you remember, please let me know your experience(s) with them! I'm really excited about this part of the trip!

I certainly will! Look for my comments/trip report some time in the middle of Dec. We'll be staying 1 night at the farm, then going on a 3 day/2 night safari on Ndarakwai ranch, and back to the farm for another night before flying home the following day.

Will you be riding alone or are they putting you with a group? There was another poster here who is a solo traveler and was interested but unsure if they would take just her.

Hi Patty--

Yes, the farm will do a safari for one person but it is very expensive. Essentially, you're paying for two people. It's not economically feasible for one person so they have to charge for two. I'm actually booked for staying at the farm with day rides, but am waiting to see if others have booked for a safari which I'd rather do. I'm booking through Authentic Tanzania which is a new company based in Dar. I hope that they are legit. The guy I've communicated with has been great and very helpful. So we'll see.. (I usually go for no-name/small companies when traveling).

so, if anyone is reading this... PLEASE go horse riding Jan 8-12 on a safari! I desperately want to go! :-)

I booked directly with Elisabeth at Makoa Farm and she has been wonderful so far. I hope they'll be able to find someone to join you on safari during your stay!

We just returned last week and spent 2 nights on Makoa Farm and 2 nights camping and riding on Ndarakwai Ranch. We had a great time! Elisabeth and Laszlo are wonderful hosts. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay there. I'll be posting more details and photos on my trip report thread soon. I hope they're able to find someone to join you for safari rides.
