Ker & Downey

Hi, can anybody give me any feedback about this company? I have never been to Botswana before. Does any one ever been to their camps? My thoughts was to use Shinde, and Footsteps. They have a all inclusive trip from the USA to the delta for around $4,400.00 for 5 nights in June. I was wondering if you know of any thing any better for around the same price.

I have no experience with Ker and Downey, but have you done any reserach on Kwando safaris. You may be able to get more nights for that price (great camps and guiding) however, you may need to make other arrangements on your own for air tickets etc etc

ker and Downey is a well-established company and certainly well-known in the industry however they do charge a lot more than many other operators.

Many forum regulars will be able to point out which local operator they subcontract to and you may want to consider booking directly with that subcontractor instead.

Ker & Downey have an office in Cape Town under the Thebe group of companies. They do not, as far as I am aware use a S.A. tour operator and my dealings with them is that they do not charge more than other operators and their service is of a very high standard. Hope my comments help.

Perhaps I am thinking of the East African Ker & Downey organisation?

Don't confuse the two K&D east Africa is not the same as K&D USA, which as zenz points out is owned by an SA firm.

Thanks mkhonzo...

Thanks, for the fast response. I have read positive post on Kwando safaries. does anyone have any ideas who has the best prices for them?

a regular poster on these forums id rocco, from what I have seen of his posts he operates as a tour operator and I gather has a deal with kwando. You should drop him a note.

Also I have worked with a guy out west Paul Swart, who gave me a steal of a deal, he is with Premier Tours.

Hello,

If you like the idea of a walking safari, you might want to check out Selinda and Chitabe, two of the camps owned by Wilderness Safaris (www.wilderness-safaris.com). Both camps have very nice walking safari options.

I've booked my Botswana trips through Eyes on Africa in Chicago (www.eyesonafrica.net). Their prices are extremely competitive, and Nicky used to work for Wilderness and knows their camps intimately. I'd definitely give them a call.

Cheers,
Julian
