Kenyan Park Fees to Rise
 

Park fees in Kenya will rise to $75.00 per day in January 2011 and then to

O K A Y then.......will see how that works out as the conservation fees add to that if staying in one of the Mara conservancies making it close to 150 peak season.

Ah Jan - as far as I understood the fees will be different for green, high and peak season.........But this info might be wrong. Must check.

I posted something similar a few weeks/months back (maybe in May)

The Mara is not under the auspices of KWS, rather by the local councils, and haven't heard about increases for 2011.


So, we'll see if/when they actually go into effect. Recall the last one's never kept to the actual dates.

I'm leaving this weekend for Kenya and I'll try to find out more about this. It is insanity on KWS's part. For a family of 4 to spend two weeks they would spend $5,040.00 just in park fees! More people will stop going to Kenya and start vacationing at home where park fees for Yosemite are $10.00 per day.

KWS is also allowing bids for another 13 hotels/lodges/camps in the Tsavo conservancy which will seriously cut down on the space meant for wildlife, forcing wildlife out of the parks and causing more human-wildlife conflict. Water is already in such short supply in that area that adding more accomodations will seriously hurt wildlife. Very worrisome.
