Kenya or South Africa in July/August?
Which is the better country to visit at that time of year in terms of weather/viewing wildlife.I have been to South Africa and Tanzania before and know the safari opportunities but did S.A. in November and Ta in February.
I am asking on behalf of a friend who wants to take his kids to Africa in the English summer holidays..Thanks |
Its fun to travel to Kenya in Summer, July Aug is the best time for wildlife and experience the migration..

Ronald, both are best during those months, so it will be a difficult choice. I think it depends on what type and style of safari you are after. Both will be excellent.

Kenya would be ideal as it's when the migration arrives in their Masai Mara. Kenya also have 'elephant' parks, lakes areas, private conservancies where bush walks and night game drives (besides daytime ones) can be done.
Ngorongoro Crater through is unique to Tanzania. In Nairobi, great for the kids as visits to the Giraffe Center and Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, besides others. Depending on how many days your friends are planning for this holiday, if 10/days or less... rather difficult to visit both Kenya and Tanzania. And, if for some reason they wish to visit the beach areas for some R&R, you have to allow minimum 3/nts for this. |
Something to keep in mind is that July/August is the height of winter in South Africa--game viewing is excellent, as grass is low, but it can be really cold. That said we were in South Africa this past mid-August and had beautiful weather throughout the two weeks, but some below freezing nights and frigid mornings.

Hey ronaldmaurice
The Kruger Natinal Park in South Africa is very popular that time of the year. and those months are around the corner so i would suggest you make a decision asap and make a booking as people have booked 11 months in advance for the school holidays in July. If you have any querries or anything you need information on then dont hessitate to ask. Thanks Shondre |
