My husband and I are planning a trip for the end of July - is this agood time to go? What Safaris are the best value? Is it safe since 9/11?

We were in Kenya in 2000 and are planning a trip for late-June early July in Tanzania this year. If I could give you one recommendation, it would be to spend more time in fewer locations (most safari operators suggest 2 nights here and 2 nights there -- that is generally not enough to really get the sense of Africa).

By late July, the Masai Mara in Kenya should be a great location...it is likely the wildebeest will be in the area, and you may see them at their river crossings. We were there for 4 nights in late Aug 2000 -- and we wished we could have stayed 2 weeks. So, visit the Mara for AT LEAST 4 nights...and, I would even recommend a full week (split between two different camps). This park is truly quintessential Africa.

Then pick 2 or 3 additional parks to visit. In late July, Amboseli, Tarangire (Tanzania), and Ngorongoro should be good. I would be happy to discuss anything further....feel free to email me at my home address.
