Just back: Sandibe, Jao, & Tintswalo

Just returned from 18 days in the Okavango Delta and South Africa. Awesome! Some info which may be helpful in planning:
Sandibe -- Excellent CC Africa camp in the Delta. Prolific game, good food, comfortable accomodations, and outstanding service. Resident pride of lions near the lodge is successfully raising two cubs. Also saw hyena cubs emerging from the den on night drive. Boyce was an outstanding guide, a River Bushman who possesses lots of both practical knowledge and book learning. Very willing to go off road for interesting sightings.
Jao -- A water camp in the Delta. Although we saw a number of hippo and elephant, the emphasis here is on the Delta ecosystem and spectacular birding, less so on the big game. Caught some nice tigerfish on an AM fishing trip. Camp is very lovely and comfortable, but service was somewhat indifferent. Food was very good with nice variety. Request Frank as your guide, a well-spoken, very knowledgable person. Be sure to do a bush walk with Frank. You won't believe what you will learn.
Tintswalo -- A new luxury lodge in the Manyeleti reserve of South Africa. And I do mean LUXURY! Perhaps the most lovely accomodations we have ever had anywhere. Spring for the "luxury suite" if you can. It's a little larger than their deluxe suites and has a separate dining room. Service and food are both outstanding. When we returned to our suite after the afternoon game drive on the last day, they had lighted candles on the floor all around the suite, drawn a warm bubble bath in the double-large tub, and gotten a fire going in the fireplace with two large easy chairs in front and a decanter of good fino sherry on the table between. Then a four course dinner served in the suite. How about that for romantic! Game sightings were pretty good, including lots of elephant, white rhino, and large herds of buffalo. Got to see two lions mating. A nice watering hope right next to the lodge attracts a variety of game. Even had two elephants come right up to our suite to drink from the plunge pool, an up-close-and-personal experience. Andre seems to be the most experience ranger there.
Will be glad to provide more specific info if needed.

Thanks for the great report! I hope to return to Botswana in May and your impressions of Tintswalo sound very favorable. Eighteen days in Southern Africa sounds like heaven...it must have been incredible.
