Yes, more! I'm very much enjoying your report. My daughter and I are booked on a Gap trip, which sounds very similar to yours (minus the Jordan portion). What was the name of your hotel in Cairo?

Hi,sorry it's taken so long for me to come back. The hotel in Cairo was called the Capsis,on Ramses II Street.About the Egyptian Museum;I don't think they offer Senior discounts, and I'm not sure of the admission price.I think someone answered that for you on another thread. There was no extra charge to view Tut's goodies.

OK,where was I?Oh,right,on the Nile-After lunch we made our way to Elephantine Island for our first glimpse of a Nubian village. This island is considered to be the home of the earliest inhabitants of this area. The homes are brightly painted with pretty geometric designs included. There were lots of women out and about doing work around the houses and visiting with friends.Esam seemed to know everyone and we felt quite welcome. Most of the homes have cool urns of water for visitors to help themselves as they pass by.(Thanks, but I'll pass...)Lots of cute goats, the occasional donkey, you get the picture.Esam took us to the home of one of our local guides who invites us in for hibiscus tea.It was a nice middle class home that is used by his extended family. We were treated to a (loooong!) story of how he met his wife and got to look at all of the many wedding photos. His hospitality was lovely, but we were all getting sleepy and ready to move on.We wound our way back to the dock and piled back on with Esam and a lovely elderly man who is a local historian. As we floated along he pointed out hieroglyphics on rocks along the banks.A niche here,a Roman water wheel there.Just another day on the Nile!

Hi Massagediva,

Great posts! Please continue. :) I am taking the same trip with Intrepid (not till 2009) and would love to hear more about it.
