Percy is right! We returned from Egypt on Oct. 18th and in the 2 weeks we were there never felt scared for our safety, other than when we tried to cross the street in Cairo. My sister and I walked the street to Hard Rock and the Museum which was close to our hotel without anyone but the peddlers bothering us and as Percy said, after a few days, you can deal with them. Please, don't let you fear keep you from a wonderful adventure! Also, found nice deals at the shops in the hotels on the Nile in Cairo. The Four Seasons will be opening theirs by Christmas. Nile Hilton and Hyatt have wonderful shops too.

Dr. Andrea:
I would book it in a hearbeat.
This is not like going to Mexico or Costa Rica or some other beach place for the winter ..
If you want to cruise the Nile , see the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the lovely Temples, you HAVE to go to Egypt.!!
Hi bobi:
We exchanged a few words I think before I left.
If you stayed at the Four Season, you indeed were very close to the Cairo Museum.
I agree with you that the most dangerous experience is crossing a major street in Cairo !!!
Plus I found Egypt to be quite cheap.
The admission fee to the Museums and Temples is less than half the price of tours and admission I have paid elsewhere.
Welcome back home

My wife and I will be in Cairo twice at the end of the year.
Once December 26th and again Janaury 3rd-4th. I could use the name and contact information of a reputable guide/car service to meet us at the airport and show us the sights of Cairo.
It sounds like you found exactly what we are needing - so could you share the name and contact information of this service.

Ok....I must be crazy. You guys convinced me that Egypt is safe. I emailed the Oberoi. If they are still willing to give me the free trip I am going to plan it as a surprise for my DH's b-day. However, since we will be in safari in January, is it ok to travel to Egypt during the end of May or June? Would it really be too hot?

Dr. A,
Oh yeah, it will be quite hot. CNN.com or the NYTimes.com has a weather site that will provide the average temps for Cairo, I think. And then it depends on where you are from & how you adjust to heat.

Hi Percy and all. I have only been a participant of one other post site. It being a house truckers site for those of us folks who travel the world in rolling homes.
Anyway I am hoping for some tips on travel either to Turkey or Egypt...or both!
My main reason for going there is for business/purchasing trip (perfumes and spices) to the outdoor markets.
Circumstances would make it best for me to travel in late Jan.early Feb. but would it be to cold in Istanbul and Isparta turkey then?
Egypt seems as if it would be fine (in the 50's or so)
Can anyone give me tips/info. on the markets/bazzars in Turkey and Egypt? Are there smaller ones than the huge ones in Istanbul and Cairo?
Are the prices better in Egypt or in Turkey?
Also, any tips on cheap hotels in both of these countries for a middleaged couple who are traveling on bare bones and with some health issues (but high spirits!)
My dear husbands spinal disability and my health issues require us to have hotel rooms that DO NOT have the squat toilets if at all possible.
Is it possible to travel to these places and remain vegan? I have serious food allergies and have always gotten very ill traveling...but I don't let it stop me! (my..don't we sound like the pair!)
We have traveled extensively (even with our health issues) and I am so very excited so any info. would be appreciated.
Ciao, marvels mama

The hotel in Egypt are just great and don't worry about squat toilets...I never saw anywhere.
Things are cheap in Egypt ,in fact I would say that Egypt is one of the cheapest place I have ever been to.
In general hotels are cheap in Egypt.
The 6 star Marriott cost me $119.00 per night!!
