June 2010
A group of friends and I are heading to South Africa for World Cup in 2010 and will be going on safari, heading to the wineries, etc while we're there. My question to all of you is whether it's too early to plan these events? Also, does anyone know a good way to go about renting a house for 8-10 people in Cape Town (or that vicinity) for that time?
Thanks! |
Can't help you on the house rental, but for the time during the World Cup, I think your planning is right on schedule. Any houses that can be rented will be snapped up if you wait. Have fun.

Hi Jenwo,
I've been lurking on this board awhile wondering when I would see a post about World Cup. We (three of us) are also planning to go to South Africa for World Cup and have booked already. Just so you know...I think it is FIFA (the governing body of soccer)that has put out a schedule of where and what dates games will be played. You may want to check the schedule in order to better plan your trip to be in certain places at certain times. |
I would definitely book as soon as possible. For self catering, why dont you try African Elite Properties http://www.africaneliteproperties.com/ who have apartments and houses in De Waterkant and the Waterfront (at good prices) or if you want a house, Villa 54 in Camps Bay will sleep all of you. http://www.villa54.co.za/

Quite frankly...i think you're too late. Most of the guest houses etc. have listed themselves on the FIFA website. You would be lucky to find a place at a reasonable price anywhere near the city.
Look at places in areas such as Walmer Estate, University Estate (both very close to the city), Pinelands, Thornton, Goodwood, Parow and Bellville. It is much easier to travel to the Winelands and Cape Point etc. from these areas, as well, and they are not nearly as expensive as in most other areas. |

I don't think you are too late. We just started finding out rates at some places in Cape Town and it seems generally there is much availability.

YESSSSSSSS FOR WORLD CUP!!!!!
Question! Do you all think it's cheaper doing air/place to stay/tickets separate, or through a package like www.roadtrips.com ? And! What teams do you want to see? For me, Spain, Portugal, and Ivory Coast are musts!!!! I bet the fan-base for Ivory Coast is going to be INSANE since it's in Africa!!!! |
