Apartheid Museum is a MUST. You can spend at least half a day there.
Sandton Mall or Rosebank Mall is nice for shopping.
On Sunday RB Mall has a very good craft market.
I have never spent 2 days in JNB. For me it was always a stop over for upcoming safaris.

I was going to ask this same question as I got closer to my departure date (May). I land there in the morning and don't leave for Botswana till the next day. I also might have some time on the return leg, but not sure.

The Apartheid museum and Soweto are the two places on my list. But if I only have time for one, I don't know which to choose. When you mention "Soweto tour", does that mean i should have a guide, or is it a self guided tour once I am there? If I need a guide, will I be able to get one from the hotel at the last minute (I have no idea what kind of jet lag I might have).

thanks

You could visit the de Wildt sanctuary, or better still stay the night and do the cheetah run and tour as well, http://www.dewildt.org.za/

More details in my trip report on 21-22 July.

Soweto is NOT a selfguiding thing! NO WAY!

We did the tour with Jimmy:

http://www.face2face.co.za/

He can arrange a Soweto Tour which incorporates the Apartheid museum.

We will be in JNB on 10 and 28 April
