Jocks or Kings ?
I need to make a decision whether to stay at Jocks Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park or Kings Camp in Timbavati - these are my only choices please help me pick one !

I have not been to either, but Timbavati has the white lions that are not anywhere else! I might check out the possibility of seeing some of them at Kings!
Best wishes- Suzi

We just came back from Kings Camp. I would highly recommend it. The lodge was beautiful and the rooms were very elegant. But more importantly, the game drives were excellent. We had some very high quality leopard sightings (mother with cub), lion, elephant herds...the animals were very comfortable and the only species that seemed shy were the warthogs and white rhino.

The trackers and rangers were excellent. We especially liked Patrick; he's the lead ranger.

We also went to Leopard Hills in Sabi Sands. While the sightings there are amazing too, I liked Timbavati better. It seems more out of the way and there are fewer lodges: 7 lodges in Timbavati vs 28 in Sabi Sands.

The star gazing in Timbavati is breathtaking! My vote is for Kings Camp! Have fun!

I thought this was about two South African Rugby teams.

Cary999 just wrote up his 2nd Kings visit and continued to be impressed with the place.

An agent I used said all the clients rave about Kings above and beyond other places.

I have stayed at both these lodges, and while Jocks is also a wonderful lodge, my vote would go for Kings Camp! Main reason for this, is the game viewing which in my experience is better in the Timbavati where eco tourism has been practised for many years. The animals are extremely habituated to the presence of game viewing vehicles and guests with flashing cameras. Jocks is situated on a formerly wilderness area of the KNP - for decades these areas were not accessible to the public, and many of the animals were not exposed to vehicles, people, etc. In my experience the animals on the Jocks concession were more skittish, so if it's up close & personal sightings you're looking for, I would recommend Kings Camp!

I beg to differ. Jocks is not in a formerly wilderness area of the Kruger. It is in the southern sector between afsaal and skukuza. A well driven area. Game down there is any bit as good as if not better than the Timbavati.
