JEANS AND SHORTS

Should a woman wear Jeans and should she wear shorts in Egypt

Jeans are ok, but shorts above the knee are offensive once outside your hotel or off the boat,if you are with a guide they are tolorated,but....... you may get unwanted attention as showing too much body is considered an invitation.....that you don't want!!!!!!

Jeans are fine, but can be quite hot to be wearing. They'll work at night in Cairo which can be cooler than elsewhere, but uncomfy in Luxor or Aswan.

As keah05, no shorts above the knees except on your cruise boat or while shore tours Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan (but not in the souk/market).

Best is loose fitting cotton - shirts, crop pants work.

Jeans are fine, but as sandi said - they can be very hot if you are there in the warmer/hotter months.

I don't advise shorts in Cairo (capris are okay), but they are okay (if long-ish, below the knee) at the beach resorts and on the cruise boats. They are "okay" with your guide at the sites you will see on the Nile cruise (but not in town), but I don't recommend them off the boat.

I am leaving in approximately 4 weeks (yay!) and had not planned on taking a pair of jeans. I had planned on taking some linen pants and some khakis, as well as a long skirt. For tops, I'm planning on long-sleeved shirts and a couple of light sweaters. Do you think I need jeans and something heavier (ie, a jacket) for the evenings? I live in Southern California and have very thin blood. :D

abby - I think you'll be fine with khakis, but you might want a light-weight jacket. The nights can get quite cool.

We were there last February and had a couple of rather cool nights, and our morning at the pyramids was also quite chilly at first. It was foggy/overcase, and I was freezing! Then the sun came out around 1100 and got quite warm. If you have "thin blood," yes, definitely take a light jacket.

I am leaving the 27th of December and have started to think about what to pack. Can anyone tell me about the dress for the cruise? Like Abby, I had planned to take khakis and loose fitting shirts, layering t-shirts with a longer uv-protected shirt to wear during the day. We are light travelers so does anyone know about laundering especially while on the cruises? We will be on the Al Kahili.
