Jasher and Matt's lunch trip report...

Finally we got a chance to meet up in London at Masala Zone, a canteen style indian restaurant in Marshall street. Thanks to my poor planning and bad train connections I arrived an hour late, (thanks for waiting Julian) and after a good lunch we made our way to a busy Natural History Museum in order to see the Wildlife photographer of the Year Exhibition. Some fine shots and some not so great (but still good) at it was great to attend with someone as interested in photography as I. We spent a good part of our time talking Africa and safaris and it was a most excellent day. I'm not at all worth meeting but Julian is a fascinating person to talk with - so thanks for bearing with me and I hope we can meet up next time I return to London.

Cheers Julian, thanks for taking time out.
Take care, Matt

Hi Matt,

Glad we got to meet up -- you're certainly worth meeting! It was great to see the WPOTY exhibit with another photographer. Let me know the next time you're in town.

Cheers,
Julian

A trip report on lunch. Now that's funny!

I am surprised there would be not so great shots in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit. Makes me feel better, then.

I am sure you are both worth meeting.

I met Julian (and Kavey). Julian's a very nice guy not at all what I expected from his posts here. I was expecting to see a proper elderly British gent, complete with bowler cap and cane, smoking a Sherlock Holmes type pipe and saying "Cheerio", but he's the complete opposite and an American to boot!

Hello Dennis,

Well, half American -- my dad was British...

Cheers,
Julian

BTW I do own a lion-headed walking stick -- I'll make sure to bring it to our next meeting.

Cheers,
Julian

Your trip report on lunch is not complete without the requisite photo upload. ;-)

Jim (DH) is bringing the Sherlock Holmes pipe when we meet Julian and Kavey in June!
Of course, not to smoke in the restaurant, but he really does have one and he really is bringing it as we will be going from the Sherlock Holmes museum to meet Julian and Kavey!

So, will I be looking for a gent with a walking stick, wearing a bowler and tweed next month? ;-)

Kavey - I don't know what I'm going to do with you. You must have this written somewhere... you will be in Scotland!

If that has changed I would be disappointed not to meet you as well!!!
Do let us know!

Sharon - I was talking about the one between Matt and Julian! I've already (finally) got it into my head that I'll miss your visit.

(Not that I'm not still disappointed though!)

Canechick, can I invite myself or is this a business (Destiny Africa) GTG?
As one of those who instigated GTGs of members on this board some years back I'm feeling rather left out!

Hello,

Sorry Kavey! Matt posted an invite on the board, and when you didn't respond I figured you were busy.

Cheers,
Julian

Kavey - Would love to meet you as well, the more the merrier. It would be great to see you both, grab a pint and something to eat and get all kinds of tips from both of you for my Botswana trip. I am so excited.

Was it while I was away in India, perhaps? If not, I must have just managed to miss it...

Canechick, sounds good - do drop me a line on date?
