January weather in Johannesburg
We will be in Johannesburg for three nights in January. I can find a lot of very nice B&Bs and guest houses for reasonable prices, but most of them do not have air conditioning. Will this be enough of a problem (discomfort) that I should not consider these? Thanks very much.

Hey
This won't be a problem at all - it can get hot in the sun but it isn't humid at all so once you're in the shade you're fine. However, if you're going to Durban, then aircon is a must! Whereabouts are you intending to stay in Jhb?

I've lived in Jo'burg for 20 years and never ever even thought about getting aircon.
But my original home town of Durban? As Tim says that's a different story, depending on the time of year. January/February are especially humid. Although having said that, I never ever had aircon there either. But then I was young and relatively penniless!

Thanks to you both very much. I won't worry about a/c now. Tim, the website, roomsforafrica.com lists a ton of guest houses and I honestly don't know which to choose. I'll be arriving at night in Jhb, my friend in the morning, so we'd like something easy to get to from the airport. We just didn't want to stay in one of those huge airport hotels. It would be nice to be able to meet some people who live in town, which is why the B & B appealed to me. Can you make any recommendations? Thank you.

Hi
Check out http://www.weatherbase.com
Maybe you can find some useful info in my Joburg trip report with pictures http://gardkarlsen.com/johannesburg_...frica_2004.htm . We were there in December a few years back.
