Jacket for Safari

WE are traveling in June and I need a warm jacket. From the advice of aother poster I ordered a jacket from Lands End but they only have my size in black which I ordered and really like. They are all out of the beige color. Is black a no no for a jacket because of the color or because it will show more dirt?

You like it. Wear it and enjoy it.

As to dirt, unless you fall into the mud (a la Joyce's hubby), no worry. If you do, have the camp/lodge launder it. If only dust, just brush it off.

Don't sweat this.

Black is a no-no because it's the color (with dark blue) of the tsetse fly traps and you don't want to walk around attracting these little buggers ... but if you are wearing it to keep warm then I assume it will be too cold for the tsetses to be active while you have it on.

I wouldn't wear a black or blue shirt while out in the jeep but you're probably OK with a black jacket so long as it's too cold for the flies.

As Sandi suggested, don't sweat it, the colour is not going to impact your experience at all.
I recall from previous posts that you are aiming for Botswana, where the Tsese are not as serious a challenge as they are in Zambia.

You'll be in a noisy vehicle, which will I assure you attract a lot more attention than your jacket.

As per the above posts.
Colour means nothing. The most important thing is make sure the jacket is WIND proof. A lot of folks make this mistake as you will be on a vehicle with no windows and the air will go thru any jacket that is not wind proof. Hope I helped.

I'm the one who recommended the jacket. So glad you like it. I was able to get the khaki color but I think black will be fine... certainly better than the magenta!

hi spiegelcis,
Which jacket from Land's End did you get? I have some of their fleece jackets, but will need a windproof one as well.....

I also have been angsting about the color 'black" because alot of my clothes tend to be black anyway and i would like to take at least one pair of black pants ....i am going to Kenya...
