Itinerary Help & Fabulous Food Suggestions

My husband and I are planning an 8-day trip to S. Africa in June. Priorities are game viewing and food/wine/relaxation. Our very preliminary itinerary is currently:
- 3 nights Chitwa Chitwa at Sabi Sands Game Reserve
- 2 nights Capetown at Ezard House (Camps Bay)
- 3 nights Franschoek at Franschoek Country House

Questions:
1) Should we skip Capetown and go directly to winelands?
2) Any comments on accomodation and proximity to amazing restaurants/wineries?
3) Please recommend the best places for food/wine
4) Should we split our stay in the winelands between Franschoek & Stellenbosch or just pick one and do a day trip to the other?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Julie...
We'll be in SA & Botswana in May so I have been researching restaurants as well.
You might try going to www.chowhound.com
There are some recent posts about Cape Town restaurants.
One Waterfront is getting alot of hype as a incredible dining experience.

Hi Juliekl,

You asked:

1) Should we skip Capetown and go directly to winelands?

In my opinion definitely not. There is so much to see, eat and drink in Cape Town that you simply should not miss our great city. Furthermore Lezard Blue (thats where I assume you want to stay) is a wonderful guesthouse.

____________

2) Any comments on accomodation and proximity to amazing restaurants/wineries?

Franschhoek country house, just like most other accommodation, is close to lots of fabulous places to want to eat Franschhoek. If you stay at lezard Blue you will need a car of taxi to vsist restaurants. The Blue Danube which is a fabulous quality restaurant is an establishment relatively close to Lezard Blue that I would not miss.

____________

3) Please recommend the best places for food/wine

Run a seach on this webpage for the words "Cape Town eat" and your question will be thoroughy answered.

___________

4) Should we split our stay in the winelands between Franschoek & Stellenbosch or just pick one and do a day trip to the other?

I would not suggest that you split your 3 night stay. You would be much better off staying in one town and commuting to the other when need be. Which town to stay in? Oh my how long is a piece of string as they are both wonderful however in the Winter months I would probably opt for Franschhoek as it will be great to spend a couple of nights in the logfire type places that the twon offers. Stellenbosch does not really lend itself to this type of accommodation.

I hope that the above helps you to enjoy my city and its surrounds in a wonderful manner.

Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa

Peri-peri chicken
Peri-peri chicken livers
