itinerary any ideas?
I am going to morocco in October and was looking for feedback on my trip plans I do not like to rush and try and see everything so I t may seem slow but I think it gives me room to change plans on the spur of the moment
depart nyc land in Casablanca train to fez fez-tour around fez-menkes roman ruins-mouley iddress fez Marrakesh-arrive by train Marrakesh tour around Marrakesh- imlil-quirlane essaouira essaouira el jadida Casablanca Casablanca return home any tips or thoughs are greatly appreciated from fellow travelers |
Still seems a bit rushed. Don't bother with Casa, very little to see there.

I will subtract one day in casa and add it back to marakesh which funny enough was how I originally had it. will do one day just to wind down.have some cocktails poolside.

Hello wlke
Good idea to eliminate one day in Casablanca and spend an extra day in Marrakech. The Atlas Mountains are incredible and you should have a guide bring you up there and see if he can connect with a Berber family for a tour of their home and business. We visited the local miller and watched him grind grain and his family showed us their "modern" kitchen which they were very proud of. They had diverted the river to run through their kitchen and they would put the places in the stream bed in their home so the women didn't have to wash them. She was excited to show us this. Fascinating! You should also have the guide stop by where the camel jockeys tend to the camels that race. They are just young boys and they will treat you to a heartfelt tour. The people are very warm! Enjoy! Dianne Africa Direct USA |
thank you Dianne so helpful and yes that sounds great

has anyone been to essaouira or el jadida? any thought's?
regards wlke |
I've been to Essaouira. Made a nice rest stop after Marrakech. It is more Mediterranean than Moroccan.

This is a short report on time spent in Essaouira, my 4th visit, if I recall:
http://www.travelgumbo.com/blog/house-in-essaouira I'd consider adding another day there, either the El Jadida day or one of the Casa days. While the cafes and shops close to the port cater to Europeans, in other neighborhoods, including the part of the medina where my house was, is just as Moroccan as anywhere else. |
I am taking out 1 casa day adding another to Marrakesh and the link didn't work but thank you

It works for me. Copy & paste if it interests you.

Sallam 'lekum wlke,
I agree with the previous learned posters (adding a day in Marrakesh and enjoying just your last day in Casa...make time to see the new Abderrahman Slaoui Foundation Museum) and think your itinerary now looks great. Well planned and researched. Darren |
mmeperdu I figured it out and a delight to read. the picture of the young mac, very good. Darren thank you I feel I now have the right pace and itinerary to match it, the reason I love these forums! again thank you to all who dropped in and please anyone new feel free to add, of note I will be staying only in riads except in casablanca

Hi. I would definitely take off a day in casablanca actually just half a day i would do! as the Hassan mosque is the only main attraction.
3 days marrakech is more than enough, even 2 days would be enough. I did eassouira in a day return trip and it was more than enough. I didnt really like the sea (v grey and rough) but maybe because I am from Malta (a tiny Mediterranean island) and there the sea is much more blue and turquoise. I did a desert tour and THAT was amazing. the orange dunes and a night in the nomad camp was amazing. I had done a 3 day tour with adrartravel from fes to marrakech. It was great cos I got to see lots of culture and places and the desert plus it was en route to marrakech. Another time I hiked the saghro mountains and did a homestay in a nomad's camp. that was such an experience. i love morocco as you can see. There is so much culture and you get most of that in the desert tour and atlas mountain area. |
