Israel - Jerusalem

Traveling to Jerusalem for three days in September. Concerned about violence during the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays based on prior years disturbances. Could travel either the week before or week after the holidays. Would appreciate any insight anyone may have. Would fly into Tel Aviv and drive to Jerusalem. Would pick another time but will be in Greece for a couple weeks and would love to see the Holy Land.

Thank you,

Keith

I don't know about possible violence, but I would suggest you don't drive from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. You don't need a car in Jerusalem. As a matter of fact, it would be a real pain to have one. Take a taxi from Ben Gurion airport or a sherut .

Sukkot starts a week after YK; many locals travel then, do things can be crowded and lodging more expensive.
I think arriving right after Simchas Torah is ideal.

Keith-I don't know if you've been to Israel before, but it's wonderful. Hope you can go for much more time (and travel up north to the Galilee and Golan) at some future date. Have a great trip

I am not sure what violence you are talking about! What are you reading or who are you speaking to? It isn't true. You would be better off before Rosh Hashonnah--not after which as already said is Succot when Israel is very crowed with internal tourism, as well as foreign visitors.

Be aware that if you are in Israel during Yom Kippur the country stops. Except for emergency vehicles there are no cars on the road. Restaurants, museums, attractions, taxis etc. etc. are closed. It is the one day that the airport closes too.
