Israel

I'm wondering whether to do a trip to Israel in the autumn. Thinking of a week based in Tel Aviv and another based in Jerusalem. Does anyone have experience/comments about this plan?

What exactly do you mean by experience and comments? Your query is too general. Any trip to Israel would be a wonderful experience...but certainly not week in Tel Aviv. Surely time in Galilee itself and out of Jerusalem of course possibly Dead Sea, Masada, Hebron, etc.

Are you Jewish or Christian or Muslim? Such would be a draw for this destination, but actually the "non-holy" sights are wonderful, i.e., just the Sea of Galilee.

Since you ask, I am an atheist. But I am interested in cultures, languages, history, geography, philosophy.
I said a week based in Tel Aviv because I thought it would be a good starting point to see the places you mention. I was hoping someone might be able to give me advice about places to go from two separate bases, maybe tell me about their experiences. Whether to hook up with tour groups, how to get about on public transport, things that a first-time traveller to the area would like to know.

Watch out for the Jewish high holidays which are in September/October this year. Might not be the best time to go.

Thank you kenav. Yes, I had realised there were holidays in October. At the moment I am thinking of going end of Oct/early Nov. I am guessing the weather will be OK then and not too hot.

The last day of the holidays is Oct 16. The weather will be very comfortable.
