Insect Repellant...........

Hi Everyone,

The information and advise I've read here has been invaluable, thanks to all of you!
I'm planning on going to Kenya next month(Nov'07), I'll be there for about 10 days. I'm only taking a small carry on sized suitcase and a duffle bag, I try to avoid checking in luggage, infact, I rarely do.
So my question is, if I purchase insect repellant in the U.S. I'll have to check in my bag because of the restricted(3oz) carry on limitation with liquids/sprays, etc. Is it okay to buy insect repellant in Nairobi? I understand, I may end up checking in my suitcase anyway, but just in case I don't have to, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

You'll probably have to check one of your bags... the duffle, so pack your repellent in there in a ziplock bag. Otherwise, you most definitely can buy repellent in Kenya.

And if you wanted too, you could also soak/spray your clothes with the anti-bug stuff before leaving home (this is not the same stuff you spray on your skin!).

I was at a Walgreens last week and was very surprised to see that they now sell small, 3oz size of bug repellant.
So, you might try to find that if you want to do carry on only.

The lodges and camps where we stayed suppled insect repellent with the toiletries. We brought a bottle of OFF but did not need to use it and if we had we could have used the repellent supplied by the camps. Have a great trip.

You could also buy the insect repellant wipes and carry them on.

You'd be surprised how little repellent you really need. I'd just bring a 3 oz or smaller size or use the provided repellent if you're staying in lodges or tented camps.

Thanks for all the great advise! I'll definetly check out the smaller bottles. Worst case, I guess I'll just get the insect repellant over there.
Thanks Again!

Be careful about buying the insect repellent wipes. I gave a box of them to my daughter and they leaked all over everything in her suitcase. You wouldn't expect them to have that much liquid in them, but they did. Can't remember what how they were packed, but apparently not in foil packs. This was the leading brand--probably Off or something similar.

It's good you are preparing for insects, but I'll second Patty's comment on the lack of them.
