inexpensive riads in fes?
 

We're planning to stay in Fes for about 3 nights in early June. Does anyone have any recommendations for inexpensive riads (with a/c and in the medina) and which site we can book from? many thanks!

When planning our trip to Morocco (which we took last month) I used www.maroc-selection.com as a primary reference (same site as travel-selection which is also referenced here on Fodor's). I cross-checked with tripadvisor to get more specific information and traveler feedback.

Maroc-selection is an excellent site to use for culling through the listings, and also to make the reservations. I was extremely pleased with the ease of use, and the dependability of the reservations. I would only use that site again if making reservations in Morocco.

As to the riad we stayed at in Fes, it was Riad Mabrouka which we thought was really great! The setting was idyllic, and the hospitality warm and charming. The food was also outstanding, and we looked forward to returning each evening to sit in the garden to read and play with the cat. Since we were there in a chilly time of year, I can't speak for the a/c, but the website indicates they have a/c.

Fes is an incredible city, and I'm envious of your trip! I think you'll love it.

Define "inexpensive" - because by definition, most inexpensive riads in Fes do not have air conditioning. I think the cheapest place I know of that has air con is Riad Bartal (but I'd verify that the air con works). Mabrouka is greatt oo, but I wouldnt call it inexpensive(at 150 €/ $200 a night).


Also, if you havent already booked your accommodation for early June, you may find that there is nothing available. The Fes Festival lasts from June 1-10 and most hotels and riads book up months and months in advance.

I don't think you'll find much that's really acceptable at under 1000Dh a night, which doesn't seem inexpensive to me! If you're on a budget, try the Hotel Batha. Just in the medina, with pool, bar, and ac.

If it has to be a riad, try www.darroumana.com

It really does make a difference on what you mean by inexpensive. We thought Dar Saffarien was inexpensive and very, very nice.

It is number one on trip advisor for Fez B&B's and it and the owners are wonderful.

I don't know about the air conditioning,but you really will want to be in a nice place as Morocco can be harsh on the senses outside of your riad and one needs the sanctuary a nice one provides.

If you go too cheap you might have to worry about bugs,bad water,dysentary and sand fleas etc.
