This article, with the above quote, was in today's Washington Post: http://tinyurl.com/yoac9p
(hope you don't need to be registered) With population pressures and a pro development government, it doesn't look good...

Hi Momliz,

It is a complete shame as to what has come about for the fate for the world's largest cat - the main problem seems to be loss of habitat due to increasing population.

We do read about tiger populations deteriorating in certain parks, and actually on the rise in certain others .....

www.sanctuaryasia.com

is usually a good resource to read up about our flora and fauna. A good read!

Rgds,
Hari

Although the Indian Government are reluctant to publish the true results it is estimated that ther are probably no more than 3000 tigers in the wild in India. The major populations are the largely non touristy parks in the South.
The future of the Tiger is very bleak indeed.Sad indeed.

www.jungleretreat.com

their website gives you an idea about the eco-system.

If anybody is only interested in 6 paw or similar - you will be disappointed with the website!

Cheers,
Hari
