in depth animal observations, where is the best for an amateur? a reserve? which country? s?

hi everyone!
i really enjoyed visiting an animal reserve while in botswana to learn more about a few species in the course of a day.

can anyone tell me where else there are reserve that allow visitors? even in general terms of which country to focus on for the most choice?

i think i read about a chimp sanctuary in kenya, but i may be totally wrong. even just a general resource (like a web site or a great book) would be so helpful as i plan ahead.

thanks!

For cats, Namibia comes to mind www.okonjima.com
and www.kavitalion.com, etc.

In South Africa, there are plenty of sanctuaries near Kruger (cannot think of the names now) and the South African guides are some of the best trained in Africa.

De Wildt outside Johannesbury raised king cheetah, wild dog and brown hyena, among other rare animals.

kerikeri - Yes, there is a Chimp Sanctuary in Kenya up near Sweetwaters and Ol Pajeta Ranch. Do a search for "Jane Goodall Chimp Sanctuary" and you should come up with a number of sites relating to the work she does, and where the various Chimp Sanctuaries are in/around Africa.

Ngamba chimp sanctuary, on an island in Lake Victoria, about 1 1/2 hours by boat from Entebbe.

They now have a fast boat which we took that should get you to Ngamba in 40-45 minutes. The island is quite nice too. More to come on that in my trip report.

Has anyone been to De Wildt? I'm making a stop there this summer.

How about Okonjima? Hope to visit some day.

Thanks for sharing any first hand experience there.
