I get conflicting info on safety in Morocco
I'm a 63 year old woman. Before my tour starts I want to take the train from Casablanca to the coast and then to Rabat. Is that doable by myself?

I traveled in Morocco a number of times in my 50s & 60s with no problems whatsoever. Tourism is Morocco's biggest industry. It behooves them to not mistreat their visitors. Stop worrying & just enjoy yourself.

I concur with the other posters. It's not a problem-free destination, and men are perhaps safer than women when travelling. However, you can take the necessary precautions women take, regardless of the age, anywhere in the world anyway. Stay away from sketchy places, do not be display things that are of value among others, here is a source that gives more details on that, although intended for both men and women. Good luck planning that trip! Morocco is a sensory overload.

We visited Marrakesh last year and were stunned by colour. Just a different century and a different world to that we have experienced before. We had a constant and secure feeling that country isn’t far short of a totalitarian, police state. Technically it’s defined as a hybrid state but effectively it’s a monarchy. There are fundamentalist active in the country and there is petty crime. However, around the streets there are huge numbers of the police and army deployed. We felt very safe. The main issue you will have is the approach many locals have to relieving you of cash. Their approaching may appear idiotic, naive and annoying to Westerners. After a time we found if you just wandered around with purpose and didn’t look like a newbie then you were left alone. |
