Hunting - This should be interesting
 

I much prefer this type of hunting, of farm-raised "wild" animals, to removing animals from a national park or reserve bordering a national park. If some farmer wants to raise a rhino and then charge someone $100,000 to come shoot it, its fine with me -- better than someone shooting a truly wild rhino. While I don't understand the "sport" of shooting animals within a fenced area, we can all make our own decisions and some obviously find this sporting and enjoy having a head hanging from their living room wall.

Michael - I agree completely. Is someone want to be so stupid as to kill a farm bred lion from the back of a truck and boast about it and better still pay $50000 for the privilege, these people should only be encouraged to spend more of their money.

To me, all hunting is unacceptable, but canned hunting is no different to cattle farming. It has no impact on natural animal populations.

The problem arises, when animals are stolen from national parks and the like to be placed in the game farm for canned hunts. Not all - but, certainly enough cases.

There was a cosiderable amount of money offered fo "tom" the Rhino at the "Frontier Dam" park outside Grahamstown. It had a exceptionally long horn. Had the park acepted the offer they could have been able to buy 5 more rhino for that park.
Would that have been acceptable?

Watched this last night. It mainly revolved around the ethic of trophy hunting of farm bred animals using hides or game vehicles.

Not the usual Louis Theroux style of reporting.

Did you get to see any of the "hunters" ? Any clues as to nationalities?

All American. Not taking a shot at your cousins over the pond, but everyone interviewed stated that its American money thats keeping the hunting industry going.

None from Texas in the film, but they unfortunately fitted the stereotype of the Republican voting, pro-hunting, pro-gun lobby, conservatives.

Or possibly the stereotype of the Democrat voting, pro-hunting, pro-gun lobby, liberals?

All Americans, probably because major hunting destinations like Zimbabwe and Tanzania are dangerous?

I am totally against hunting. I don't think we have a right to pay money to shoot or kill something that is not ours to kill We don't OWN these animals. Who made us God with the power to kill just for fun?
Besides, it isn't even 'hunting'. It's killing for pleasure and vanity. How can it be hunting when animals are raised and fed by humans and therefore do not have a fear of them. They are sitting ducks.
Shame on anyone who kills something that is not theirs to kill. For money, for fun, or just because they can, it's wrong. Nature takes care of things just fine. We don't have to intercede by killing defenceless animals.
