How to Check Safari Operator "Credentials"?

Hello,

We have narrowed down our trip to the following operators:
1) East African Safari & Touring Co. (EASTCO)
2) Good Earth

How do I check the 'credentials.' By that I mean the licenses (etc.) that make them legitimate? What is the difference between TATO and TALA? Which is more important?

Thank you!
RS

Hi ruby!

I know what it feels like ..was asking the same questions a coupla weeks back. Finally have settled on EastCo ..and have paid my advance too. They come highly recommended in the Rough Guides and there are other ppl on this forum who have used them previously. Plus, Simon was very co-operative and took time out to explain certain "controversies" regarding Naitolia et all.

I have heard good things abt Good Earth too.

Hope it works out and let us know who you picked finally.

TATO membership is voluntary. The other license is a must have in order to operate. Both EASTCO and Good Earth appear to be on the list of licensed operators as of June 2005 (does anyone know if there's a more recently updated list?).
