How many days for Doha?
 

Dear Fodorites, I will be in Doha in early March, and will have the opportunity to visit for up to 4 days (not counting travel days.) In my preliminary research it would appear that 2-3 full days is sufficient to see the major sights within Doha. Does this sound reasonable? Thank you.

We were in Doha last February, on our way to Sri Lanka. The highlight is the Islamic Arts Museum. You can easily visit the museum, walk the corniche (either in the morning or in the evening, when it is certainly cooler), and visit Souq Waqif easily in one day. If you want to go outside the city to visit a couple of the forts or participate in some desert activities, I suppose you can fill a second day. Four days in Doha would be too much.

tripplanner001, thanks. I will be arriving on an overnight flight but the time difference is only 2 hours, so 1+ days sounds about right. The Souk and the Islamic Arts Museum are at the top of the list; I figured I could do without a visit to the shopping mall. ;)

We enjoyed our one day one night stopover in Doha. The souk is amazing. Make sure you visit the falconry section and get them explain about the birds. There are great restaurants and we enjoyed smoking a narghile sitting outside in one of the bars in the pedestrian centre. 24 hours is good.

I second carom's suggestion regarding the falcons. It was a unique experience.

Thanks for the recommendations about the falcons. We have seen a couple of falconry shows here in Austria; I find birds of prey fascinating. Anything in particular I should consider purchasing from the Souk? I am taking our rug measurements with me, just in case...

Honestly the Souq was fun to walk around and spend a couple of hours, but it is more touristy than authentic compared to those in other Arab cities. Rugs were definitely on sale although the variety and prices are better in Turkey.
