Uganda or Rwanda? Which is the better choice to see the gorillas?

You've already decided you are overbudget. That's funny.

I think Rwanda has the slight edge for ease of travel logistics, vegetation of the viewing area that permits better viewing, and ability to match your fitness with different groups on the day of the hike.

But either country is good and it also depends on what else you might want to do in either Uganda or Rwanda.

I absolutely love your screen name. Hits far too close to home on the Africa board.

I chose Rwanda because of logistics/timing for my trip, but if I had had the luxury of more time, I might have chosen Uganda and added it to other parks. It seems you cannot go wrong with either country. Rwanda is beautiful and heartbreaking.

Have a wonderful trip!

WHEN are you going. OB? The price for Gorilla trek in Rwanda goes up to $750 later this year---then you'll REALLY be overbudget. LOL,love the name too. Thank heaven for plastic!!

For details on the price hike, do google search or the Rwanda tripadvsisor forum .

in terms of budget, Uganda is the best because of the cheap Gorilla Permit which is at USD 500 than Rwanda which is at USD 750. Also Uganda has many Gorilla groups and so its easy to get the Permit compared to Rwanda.
In terms of time taken to track the Gorillas, Rwanda is better since tracking takes a short time compared to Uganda where you can spend like 6-8 hours Tracking Gorillas

If just seeing gorillas, try Uganda. More gorilla groups and depending of your travel dates, cheaper permits.
