How do I send a fax to S. Africa

Sorry about the frivoulous nature of this post but I must fax a credit card authorization to the Mandela Rhodes Place hotel for my reservation confirmation (I assume this is typical).

The number they gave me to fax to is 086 649 2321. Do I need to put any other numbers before this?

You need to put in the country code 27 for South Africa, and I think a 0 before that.

out of the US you should dial as follows:
011 27 86 649.... Note that you will need to drop the zero before 86.

I take it this rule applies for all countries?

For Tanzania I would do:
001 255 then the number I was given for the fax??

To dial out of the USA - you have to start with 011 and then your country code.

For example, as Mkhanzo says above - 011 27
Tanzania would be 011 255 (If 255 is the country code- I don't know)

From USA, the 011 is the prefix signifying an international call. Then, the country code is dialed. The leading 0 that is then usually seen in non-North-American phone numbers signifies an in-country prefix. Thus, that leading 0 is to be dialed when calling from in-country, and is to be ignored (and not dialed) when calling from North America...
