How Africaphilia bleeds into one's general life...

...although this may serve only to give the impression that I'm completely crazy (though I prefer the term eccentric).

We have a local Italian restaurant that we adore and where we are well known and looked after - we go for lunch once or twice a week plus for dinner maybe once every one to two weeks. Sometimes more.

The manager is a sweetheart and very good with kids and often gives the youngsters a ball of pizza dough with which they can make things which he then bakes - they aren't for eating - it's a little like making saltdough models. Some of them he glazes with olive oil and hangs up in a display on the wall above the pizza oven.

Many moons ago, when celebrating a birthday there, I asked if I could have a go and duly made a lizard that was put up onto the wall.

Last night a friend unexpectedly needed a place to stay in our neck of the woods and, as he loves the place too, suggested we go.

It was, for some odd reason, empty, so I asked if I could indulge in some dough craft.

And made a really rather smashing (if I say so myself) Africa elephant!

I will try and get a photo to share with you but... some of those animals are definitely under my skin!!!

Snap a few shots of the pizza, spaghetti, linguini, tiramisu, etc. while you're at it!

PS. I know the ear should be bigger, I rolled it out flatter but it kind of pinged back smaller as I was sticking it to the body so it does look more like an Asian ele than an African one but it hasn't the domed head of an Asian. Oh and I even drew lines on the trunk, you can just about see them!

LOL

I could see the lines on the trunk! Since art is in the eye of the beholder, I think the little one looks like penguin, which would make perfect sense, given the artist's upcoming plans.

Haaa haa, thanks for sharing my silliness/ fun!

The back "thing" is indeed a penguin - VERY impressed that anyone could guess.

I made it first and had to admit it was appalling. Then was wondering out loud what to do next and Pete suggested an elephant thinking if a simple penguin was sooo bad an ele would be hilarious but actually it came out far better than the penguin and he was grudgingly impressed!
