Hotels in Istanbul

I am going to Turkey at the end of this month - no I am not cancelling! I am looking for recommendations for a hotel - around $50 a night. So far Empress Zoe and Nomade seem to look good. Has anyone been there recently and be prepared to offer a recommendation?
Thanks

I stayed at the Paris Hotel a few years ago. It is more or less a back packer hotel. They have doorm style rooms and private rooms. My wife and I stayed in a private room and for around $21 a night we were pretty happy. Clean and hot water every day, private bath, TV and telephone. Breakfast was included. Nice loby and friendly people.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Romance two years ago. The name seemed to imply some 'foofy' honeymooner hotel, but it wasn't. (I guess they just picked a theme and went with it.) It was ideally located and we walked everywhere. Hotel staff was eager and pleasant and the breakfast was extensive.
They have a website: www.romancehotel.com
