horrible experience with INTRAV

my wife and I were scheduled to depart from NYC for Botswana and S. Africa within 2 weeks after 9/11. We decided not to go. INTRAV refused to even talk with us, did not refund any part of our money or credit us for a future trip, despite the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this decision. Do we have any recourse?

What the extraordinary circumstances do you have in mind? When did you talk to this company? When exactly did you cancel your trip? September 11, 12? Do you have any documents to prove when did you tried to cancel? There are many people who traveled from NYC on September 25 to Europe and Bostwana and S. Africa. Actually these are safe places to What is a reason for you to post your question here almost one month after the tragedy in NYC? Do you have any travel insurance? What is INTRAV? How much $ are you talking about? Please answer the above questions before yours can be answered.

Intrav is a St. Louis based tour company that we have used in the past and been happy with. They are very clear that there are no refunds for any reason if you do not have travel insurance. I think planning a trip without insurance is a risk you choose to take.

That being said, I wonder if a trip is cancelled because the operator didn't provide it (as in, for example, the fact that planes were grounded in the U.S. for a while after 9/11) what the liability would be.

Nevermind

Why did you suddenly respond to a five year old thread?

I just happened to see it and felt a little annoyed that someone was slamming what I consider to be a good tour company over something that would not have been a problem had they (the traveler) been insured. Nevertheless, I probably would have been wise to just let it go, especially since the circumstances surrounding 9/11 were so momentous, and as you pointed out -- it is a really old thread. I guess I have too much time on my hands while I am waiting for my next journey!!!
