Hoopoe Safaris' Wildest Africa itineray...what do you think??

There was an earlier post about Hoopoe Safaris so I decided to check out the website and found this itinerary that sounds unique and exciting. I've been avoiding Tanzania because it seems like a "scene" compared to southern Africa. Anyway, check it out:

Days 1-2 Zanzibar (Serena Inn)

Days 3-4 Fly to Selous (Sable Mountain Lodge)

Days 5-6 Drive over the Uluguru Mountains to Mikumi (Vuma Hills Tented Camp)

Days 7-8 Drive to Ruaha via Iringa (Ruaha River Lodge)

Day 9 Fly to Dar es Salaam (overnight at a seaside hotel)

Day 10 Departure

The cost, depending on when you go, ranges from $3215 (June) to $3600 (August). Single supplements are between $285-$390.

Thanks in advance....

Thats alot of ground to cover in a short time. Its about 5 hour drive from the selous to Mikumi I think.

Just looking at a couple sites I came across this, for an example.

10-day Ruaha and Selous and Ras Kutani
Fly-in Safarii

day 1 flight from Dar es Salaam to Selous

days 1-4 3 nights Selous Safari Camp - full board and game activities

day 4 Flight from Selous to Ruaha

days 4- 7 3 nights Jongomero Camp - full board and game activities

day 7 Flight from Ruaha to Dar es Salaam and connect to charter to Ras Kutani Beach Resort

days 7 - 11 4 nights at Ras Kutani Beach Resort

day 11 Return flight to Dar es Salaam.

Costs $2055 low season / $3035 high

Robbie,
Can you provide a link to the tour operator that offers that itinerary? Those prices are incredibly low.

Thanks, Robbie. That site looks a bit out of date and I'm guessing so are the prices

I too believe the prices on the Cape to Cairo site are a bit out of date.

As to low season for their Southern Parks itinerary - when in Ruaha and Selous? Certainly not April and May (the understood low season up north) and when these two parks are closed.

We had hoped to stop here this past late May - closed till after June 1... unless June is it!

It wasn't the pricing as much as the itineraries. I was thinking that skipping Mikumi and concentrating on Ruaha and Selous without all the transportation issues between 3 parks and flying would be better use of time on safari.

Sorry for the earlier thread-jacking. I got momentarily over-excited about the second itinerary's price

Going back to the original question, it does also look to me like the Hoopoe itinerary is too rushed.

Many on this board have used and recommend Foxes for southern Tanzania safaris. I believe they own and operate Ruaha River Lodge as well as two camps in Mikumi. If I were planning a Selous/Mikumi/Ruaha combination, they'd definitely be on my list to contact.

I believe they also operate their own flights between these parks.
