I would also be interested if anyone has used this tour operator and can give some feedback.
Thank you.

Tom: We used Hoopoe Tours in 99 and had a great trip. They arranged a private tour for 4 people. They were recommended by Fodors and Lonely Planets guide books for East Africa. Booked entirely by fax and email. We did a 5 day safari of the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater. If we could change anything, we would stay longer at the Ngorogoro Lodge a couple days longer.

They've also got a very nice website at www.hoopoe.com and have won some impressive travel awards. J

They're also listed in the Bradt guide. Sounds like they put together good safaris.

Thanks, has anyone out there used this company recently? I have read trip reports with Roy's, Good Earth, etc. but no Hoopoe.

Hi Zuson,

I used Hoopoe 10 years ago, and again in March of this year. On both occasions i thought they were very good and very helpfull, example, our flight was late leaving Serengeti back to Arusha and on to Stone Town. Our driver call the office , they sent somebody to Arusha airport to meet us and he made sure we got the last 2 seats on the last flight of thr day to Stone Town and they paid the difference. This is only one example of many.
My driver`s name is Freddy and would ask for him again the next time I go back .

We did a 2.5 week private birding safari with Hoopoe in 2002 and were very pleased with the guide (Adam), camps and services. The only problem was with the vehicles. Our first Rover lost its transmission not long after we got out of Arusha, and the battery died on the second one on the way to our last camp in the Serengeti. I had read one trip report before we booked with them, and those folks said the same thing...vehicle reliability was a problem on their safari. However, I must admit push-starting a Rover and almost getting stuck overnight in Tarangire added to the adventure! I would not hesitate to book with Hoopoe again.

Hi
When I on safari in March Hoopoe had just taken delivery of new vehicles. They seemed bigger with larger windows.
