Holy Land - Best time to travel

I would like to go to the Holy Land. I would like to know the best time to travel there, based on weather, etc. How would I research church groups or organizations that have trips planned in 2011 rather than going on my own, unescorted?

I would look at Gate 1. Their trips to Israel get very good reviews. They have many trips throughout the year. Besides the weather, I would look into the Jewish holy days and avoid those dates. Other posters will be able to give more info on the holy days.

The best time to visit Israel is in the spring - the weather is still comfortable, the chance of rain is minimal and the landscape is still green after the winter rains. March - April - May are the best, but avoid the Passover holiday from April 19 to April 25.

Try Spring time. In summer it's to hot, a there are too many people there.
But I'd rather go on my own, then with a group. My wifes sister went there and Egypt last Autumn, with a bunch of friends. It was quiet a different experience then my parents had last Spring when going with a church group. She saw more sights, was not limited by time, a schedule or anything really. She just booked hotels online through momoway.com, and went on trips with people from the hotel she stayed in, for a extra cost, sure, but still she said it was worth it. It's pretty much safe there right now, so I would go on my own. In fact I'm thinking about it for next Autumn.

Am considering going with a church group 11/28-12/7 with a tour sponsored by Educational Opportunities Tours. Anyone have any experience with this company?

I went to Israel on my own, but I spent part of the time on tours.

I took these two Bein Harim tours, and they are very good:

I also took the Sandemans Free Tour and the Mount of Olives tour, each of which is 3 hours or so, and both are very good:

I don't know anything about Educational Opportunities Tours, but at a glance, I feel you can do it much cheaper with the types of options I mentioned. Of course you will miss out on the camaderie of having an entire group that has the same interests as you have, but there will be a mix of interesting people on the tours I mentioned.

Note that Bein Harim also has lots of other tours, so you can mix and match quite a bit.

I also booked a tour of the underground tunnels at the Kotel (Western Wall) from here:
