Hemmingways Resort

Has anyone been at Hemmingways resort in Malindi.
Was told the hotel and the beach much better than Serena beach hotel at Monbasa.
would appreciate comments on the matter.

Stayed next door to Hemmingways in January. The beach is amazing and the beach boys are regulated so the hassle factor is very low.

Stayed at Hemingways for 4 nights in October great hotel, great food, great beach and lots to do in the area. Sokoke forest, Gedi ruins and Mida creek.

But I haven't been to Serena beach

been to both. just this summer.

hemingways hands down.

the beach at malindi- even in a fierce storm that wiped away all the sand at hemingways, was still better than mombasa- no beach boys at all.

when the weather improved, it was possible to walk on powdery soft sand for a long long way before turning around.

the only advantage is that of the city of mombasa over malindi, but if you are just looking to chill for a few days definitely select hemingways.

and yes, i stayed at serena mombasa so it is a true comparison of those resorts.

Kerikeri,

You mention that Hemmingways has a much better beach than Mombasa Serena (and less beach boys).

But how do you compare the hotels? The rooms? The food?

I'm also curious to know which is a "better experience" between the two hotels as they are "roughly" the same price....

Kerikeri?

Kerikeri,

You never answered this last question!

kerikeri Oct 31st, 2006 05:21 PM

i'm sorry but i did!

it was in your previous post about comparing peponi (lamu), serena mombasa, and a third property.

didn;t want to repeat myself as though on a campaign against serena mombasa as others have clearly liked it there.

hemingways rooms are set in a curved shape and all face the pool/beach.

serena a much larger feeling resort compound, but hemmingways easier to step outside and stroll the non agressive village area.

both had excellent food and serena had the added bonus of the seafood restaurant near the beach (extra cost).

hemingways felt much more elegant and intimate because it was smaller and there were no kids whatsoever whereas it was kenya school holidays at serena.

if you click your name or my name, you'll get to that initial post and my lengthy details about the rooms there.

sorry for the wait/confusion.
