Help with malaria-free wildlife areas - SA - May '05

Without going overmuch into detail, my wife's doctor thinks we'd be better off avoiding malaria areas (and antimalarial meds) if at all possible in our trip to SA next year (probably May.) In going over the many choices for wildlife viewing, it looks like most of the Kruger-area parks and reserves are in malarial zones, while a couple in KZN, notably Ithala, are not. (Others in KZN, such as Hluhluwe-Infolozi, are.) Along the same lines, I've seen several threads in which posters said they enjoyed Ithala and other KZN sites very much, and certainly from the pictures on the web, it looks pretty nice. Also, Selwyn's website mentions that other areas in the East Cape are good for wildlife viewing but malaria-free.

So can any of you help me try to hone down a list of moderately-priced (not one star but not five) areas where there's good wildlife viewing in May but where malaria is not an issue? (Big 5 not essential, but we'd like to see a big cat or two.)

Thanks for any help.

Not sure what your budget is but the Madikwe Game Reserve is malaria free.
