HELP! Which is better Royal Malawane or Singita Boulders??

We are having a difficult time deciding between Royal Malawane and Singita Boulders?
Which would offer the best experience for viewing wildlife? Are the suites equally nice? (I know they both have the plunge pools). Which is the shorter flying time from Johannesburg?
I appreciate any insight you can offer. We need to make a decision. Thank you.

Although this answer may cause a minor riot, I have only met one couple to ever visit both establishments.

During my stay at Singita Boulders my wife and I befriended a very nice Venezuelan couple. They had just visited Royal Malewane and were finishing off their trip with Singita Boulders. Perhaps it was just a case of one upmanship (but I don't think so) but on a couple occasions when all the other guests were ooohing and aaahing, they would whisper to us that the Royal Malewane was even nicer.

They said they preferred everything about the Royal Malewane but that the rooms were admittedly smaller (but still very generously sized). That is pretty much the same way I felt about Chichele Presidential Lodge when I compared it to Singita.

But, as a past guest of Singita Boulders, I must say that it was an awesome experience and in just three days, of the six photos hanging up in the wall right now as I look around the room, four of them were taken while at Singita (one leopard, one waterbuck, one rhino and one giraffe).

Just for entertainment value, if you do choose the Royal Malewane, when we were being picked up by our guide last year at the Hoedspruit airport, a couple was being picked up by their guide from Royal Malewane. This guy looked like a South African Fabio, with long blonde hair, about 6'3", all muscle, shorts that were too short but with his physique he was really able to pull it off, and to top it all off he was all decked out in his safari gear and had a holstered handgun just for added dramatic effect. Just what I needed for my wife to see, as she asked me why we cannot be staying at the Royal Malewane and not going with THAT guide?!

Hi there Petlover

Having visited both lodges, I found each one to have a very special magic. On decor luxury and comfort and homely atmosphere - Royal Malewane has my winning vote, on animals, food and pomp and ceremony - Singita wins...so it depends on what you are looking for!
