Help: Travelling Solo in Jordan

I'm supposed to travel to Jordan with a friend on Thursday, 15 April 2010 but his Jordan visa expired so we cancelled our tour package reservations. Since our ticket is non-refundable, I'm planning to travel alone. Any group tour package I can join? I think I dont need a guide - just a driver who will bring me to the different places in Jordan. Any idea how much it will cost me for 5 days? I appreciate any help...

The cost will depend on where you go - Wadi Rum is expensive! I can't recommend the group tour I used (see http://www.fodors.com/community/afri...iddle-east.cfm for my TR) but there are several in-country travel agencies who could arrange something (check the guidebooks for recommendations). Or you could ask your first hotel.

I was with Desert Horizons. The driver drove me around for 6 days. Don't know how much it costs just for the driver but I can highly recommend the company.

BTW - what nationality is your friend? Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival in Jordan - I got one at the border without even needing to fill in a form.

I have used Radwan Farajat a couple of times in Jordan. He is a guide but I'm sure he can provide a reliable driver for you, help with your visa problem or make other arrangements. His website is http://www.redrock.jo and you can email him at [email protected]. Tell him you were referred by Sukey in the U.S.

According to Timatic for Phillipine citizens:

Visa Issuance:
- On arrival: if required, all passengers can obtain a visa on
arrival when :
- attending a scientific or economical conference; or
- travelling as part of a tour group provided that they are
travelling with a Jordanian Travel/Tourist Agency.

saudipinoy - looks like he/you would need a visa in advance then, pity.
