One Dinner in Franschhoek
We have one night in Franschhoek and are trying to figure out where to eat. We have lunch reservations at Bread and Wine and La Petite Ferme but are deciding between Le Bon Vivant, French Connection, and Grande Provence for dinner. We are leaning towards Bon Vivant, but are there any recent reviews of these spots? Thanks!

We went to both Le Bon Vivant & the French Connection in February. BY FAR Le Bon Vivant was better - in fact, my husband claims it is the best restaurant he has ever eaten in, anywhere in the world, ever. (Thanks Kavey!!!!!) Gorgeous presentation, wonderful service, delicious food.

Thanks everyone. Kavey, I am not surprised to see you chiming in for Le Bon Vivant! It seems you discovered this one long before anyone else. I'll let you know if it's as good as you remember when we return!

Hello,
You really should consider The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais -- my dinner there was one of the best meals I've ever had, and I've dined at some of the best restaurants in the world (French Laundry, etc).
Cheers,
Julian

Thanks, Julian. As it turns out, I did take that advice ;-) I had emailed both places because I have two nights. So I do have the Tasting Room reserved, but now have to find somether else for the remaining night.

I know that Le Quartier Francais has won awards for both hotel and restaurant. But the latest is by Restaurant magazine, which has just rated it #38 of its top 50. Another Cape restaurant (La Colombe) was rated #28.
Going off the subject, I see that El Bulli in Spain pushed The Fat Duck off its #1 spot. By chance this weekend I caught an amazing one-hour special on El Bulli and its chef-owner Ferran Adria, on BBC Food. Hosed by am American chef whose name I missed. It started in the "laboratory" where they conjure up and test new dishes and combinations, then it was followed by an amazing meal (32 mini-courses I think) at the chef's table in the kitchen. I missed about the first 1/3, I must see if it is going to be on again.
