Headnet needed?
Ill be on a camping safari doing the typical Tanzania and Kenya circuit in February (Ngorongoro, serengeti, manyara, amboseli, samburu, lake nakuru, masai mara) and was wondering if one of those head net things would be necessary? One like this:
http://www.rei.com/product/751955 We've all seen those animal planet shows where they are out in the bush practically inhaling those tiny bugs (no see ums?)and I want no part of that, however I'm not sure those lil bugs will be a big problem where and when im going. Any insight? Maybe regular mossie spray does the trick for these guys too? I dunno, so hopefully someone here can help. Thanks! |
Fortunately, no :)

Speaking of "no see ums" Years back I bought one of those nets for a trip to the outback Australia. If not the net, alternative would have been one of those funny hats with corks swinging off the brim. Needed the net in the outback.
Have slipped it into my bag for every trip to Africa since and have never needed it. But then I've never camped out. They're inexpensive enough and weigh nothing, buy one to use just in case. |
I am pleased to know somebody else has been bringing their head net. I've taken it on every gorilla trip and never needed it. I also took it with me to Brazil and didn't need it. I'd follow Sandi's logic and throw it in because it takes up so little room and is light.
I bet you won't need it though. |
Thanks for the responses. I will likely bring one juuuust in case. And who knows, maybe I can seduce a hot masai warrior with it on! ;)
