Great birdwatching guide in South Africa

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending a day birdwatching with Richard Grant in the Cape Town area. He runs a small company called "Birdwatch Cafe" and offers reasonably priced trips to many bird rich areas in South Africa, including pelagic sorties.

I chose to stay within about 100 kilometres of Cape Town and was most impressed with his skills and enthusiasm. He is patient, knowledgeable, good at getting you on the bird, and will work very hard at finding whatever avifauna you indicate that you are interested in seeing. I especially like when he pointed out the pertinent field marks for whatever species I was viewing. He knows his bird songs and is otherwise very competent.

You can get in touch with him in several ways:
Mobile: 082 717 0306
email: [email protected]
Tel: 27 21 762 5059

He has an eight-passenger, new Volkswagon, air-conditioned van and is a good driver. The usual disclaimer--I have no interest in his business other than that as a client. I will definitely go out with him again as soon as I return to his lovely country.
